From the recording What About You?
Lyrics
reading poetry under an amber oak
a hazel amulet cloaked just beneath my throat
rests next to a heart I hide to
keep myself from lying.
met me a witch from a coven once or twice
and man, those gypsy-eyed angels really cloud my sight!
I couldn’t buy—I did not know the price.
but come on!
I’d love to know you,
and there’s things I’d love to show you,
but girl, you’ve got to know yourself.
now a knuckle’s knocking at the door,
a presence incandescent has me mining for caresses,
and I feel my heavy heart bending the floor.
but somewhere children carry out a chore,
and tides commence their siege into the shore.
so come on!
I’d love to know you,
and there’s things I’d love to show you,
but girl you’ve got to know yourself
to be loved by me.
found my love
sick, sore, and forlorn,
fearing life won’t offer her more,
found my love
and later, the way.
grinning, hear her whisper she’ll stay.
